Photo Courtesy to Kuwait Flour Mill and Bakeries Company (KFMB)
Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company (KFMB) has launched four product which are Gluten Free. These are subsidized just like all of their other products. This takes place as they have just opened the first factory for gluten free products. (CLICK HERE to read about the article in 'The Times Kuwait')

A post by the blogger 'A-O' on his blog 'Kuwaiti-Trailmix' gives more information on the above subject & the reasons why Gluten Free products (subsidizedare necessary for certain people. (People who have celiac disease or even the ones allergic to Gluten who cannot take regular Bakery products) CLICK HERE to read the post.

I came across the articles through 'Mark' on his blog '248am'. CLICK HERE for the post. I was originally planning to write about this in sometime, but going through some of the articles and after going through the Gluten Free products, thought why to delay. One of the main things people should know is that these gluten free products are available across certain factory outlets. As mentioned in A.O post & on KFMB pamphlets it is better or easier for people to call up and check whether the products are available. CLICK HERE for the post by Sala6a on the same subject.

The following are the phone numbers:
  • Shaab: 22613611

  • Khaitan: 24745641
  • Jahra: 24555392

  • Rumaithiya: 25629296
  • Ahmadi: 23980749

Now we come to the point about their products. Mark and A.O. both have also mentioned about the products and its price list. Also KFMB has put info about it in their pamphlets. I wanted to add some more information, like the weight of the products or the number of pieces one gets when purchasing this. Also how long will the products remain on the shelf or in simple terms - when do they expire.

The products are as follows:
  • Sliced Loaf of Bread - Toast: 700 fils (400 grams - Around 12 slices, one slice 30.8gm is 1.5cm or 1/2 in.) Expiry date 5 days.
  • Hamburger Buns: 690 fils (240 grams - 4 pieces of Hamburger Bun each weighing 60 gms, Diameter of around 9 cm or 3 1/2 in, thickness around 4.5 cms or 1 3/4in) Expiry date 5 days.
  • Rolls / Hot Dog Rolls: 590 fils (200 grams - 4 pieces of roll each weighing 50 gms, length around 12.5 cm or 5 in., width 5 cm or 2 in, depth 4cm or above 1 1/2in.) Expiry date 5 days.
  • Vanilla Cupcakes: 390 fils (100 grams - 2 cupcakes, one cupcake 50 gms is diameter 6.5 cm or 2 1/2 in. and depth over 4cm or 1 3/4 in) Expiry date 8 days.

Kuwait Flour Mill & Bakeries company has always been coming up with products which definitely are useful and essential. I believe nearly everyone in Kuwait, around 4 million in population takes in one product of KFMB, be it the European bakery section - with breads or Croissant & other products, Arabic bakery section, Biscuit Factory, Vegetable Oils, Macaroni Factory. If not this way then indirectly through the Mill section or Animal Feed section.

Noon Outdoor Work Hour Ban

Summer's in Kuwait are getting extreme over the years and for past few years, the government of Kuwait has been passing a Noon Outdoor Work Hour Ban. It usually starts on June 1 until August 31. The outdoor work hour ban starts from 11 am and remains till 4 pm, during which no worker should be found doing outdoor work like construction work, cleaning crews in the open, the agricultural work force and animal husbandry (or shepherds), any kind of outdoor maintenance work, etc..

The above ban is imposed by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour (MoSAL). The fines previously given to people or companies found to be breaking the above ban was KD 500 per person. In the previous years, companies have been fined. We are hoping that more than fines, peoples lives will be safe during those peak temperature hours when the direct sunlight is quiet unbearable.

Kuwait Metro Project

Ministry of Communication, Kuwait has finalised the Kuwait Metro Project as per the reports from the Kuwait Daily Al Shahed newspaper. I am still waiting for some more concrete information from the Ministry of Communication. As all the information, I have been able to gather is just Random without proper sources and details of the project.

I WILL BE POSTING SOME THOUGHTS ON THIS METRO PROJECT
(So look forward to it)

Therefore, all the information below is speculated based on all the reports, articles and posts across Kuwait. Check at the bottom for the references to the project. Some of the points to note which I gathered from the News report are:
  • Initially when the project was announced the cost of the Project was sent at $ 7 Billion in 2012-2013. Then after being halted, now in 2014, the project is estimated to cost $ 20 Billion (Roughly 5.5 Billion Kuwaiti Dinars) which is anticipated to start in 2017.
  • The Kuwait Metro Project will be a joint Public and Private partnership.
  • 3 Lines totaling 61 stations.
    • Line 1 - 23.7 km with 19 stations. (Salwa to Kuwait University Campus)
    • Line 2 - 21 km with 27 stations. (Hawally and ending in Kuwait City)
    • Line 3 - 24 km with 15 stations. (Airport to Abdullah Al Mubarak)
Video Presentation of the Metro Project was created by 'Designa Comunicacion' and uploaded 2 years ago in 2012. This is not the official video but just for reference purposes.

This applies to Government offices and across government schools. The private companies and schools have to make their own decision. Below is the Circular released by the Council of Ministers with regard to 19th November 2013 being declared a Rest day.

Now this brings us to others subjects, like traffic management issues before, during and after the summit takes place. We should be keeping the eyes on the newspapers for more information with this regard. Already we should be feeling the presence of the Traffic Police in full action performing drills since Saturday 9th November 2013. MOI has informed us about the traffic diversions that need to be taken. KUNA articles covers this information. CLICK HERE for the KUNA article. The gist of the articles is as follows:

Eid al Fitr 2013

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) Kuwait had announced the number of official holidays on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr (year 2013 corresponding to Hijri Calender year 1434, 1st day of Shawwal - Month 10 on the Lunar Calender) to be 4 days (Four Days). If Eid falls on Thursday August 8, then work will resume on Monday, August 12. If Eid falls on Friday August 9, then work will resume on Tuesday, August 13. (CLICK HERE for source of article)

In other news, the Crescent sighting Authorities for Saudi Arabia (The supreme court) and Kuwait will be sitting out on Tuesday August 6, 2013 which is a day earlier than the previously stated one. During this time anyone who views the Crescent  can contact the Authorities. If the crescent is not seen, then the authorities will reconvene on Wednesday, August 7. (CLICK HERE for the source of Saudi Arabia's Supreme Court crescent sighting authority) (CLICK HERE for the source of Kuwait's Crescent Sighting Authority).

Now based on the re-scheduling of the crescent sighting authorities, I assume that if Eid falls on Wednesday August 7, then the 4 days official holidays will still stand, then work will resume on Sunday, August 11. No official circular/statement has been announced with regard to this. This kind of Oddity has happened before around 30 years back. (where Ramadan was for 28 days, therefore to complete fasting of Ramadan which is either 29 or 30; people kept a day extra after Eid that year.)

The EID prayer takes place in the early morning hours just after sunrise ( approx. 15 mins after sunrise) on the 1st Day of Shawwal which is an official holiday by the government in Kuwait. The time for the prayer in Kuwait works out to 5:27 am. There are Mosques/Masjids in Kuwait which have Regional language Khutbah / Sermon after the Eid prayers (under the watchful eyes of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs). These Masjids tend to start the Eid Prayers a little late at around 8 am.

CLICK on these previous Posts about RAMADAN 2013 and RAMADAN 2013 Grand Mosque Qiyam ul Layl.

UPDATE (06/8/2013): The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has informed all the masjids about tomorrow, 07/8/2013, Wednesday being 29th Ramadan 1434. So today night we get another chance to attend Taraweeh and Qiyam ul Layl prayers. Tomorrow evening, once again the Crescent sighting committee will convene to spot the crescent.

UPDATE (07/8/2013) (7:55 pm KWT time +3 GMT) : Kuwait Crescent Sighting Committee officially just announced that August 8th, 2013, Thursday will be the 1st Day of Shawwal 1434. EID MUBARAK to all.

Photography Opportunities across Kuwait

It is time to write about, as many photography events are taking place across Kuwait. I thought of compiling most of these events in this one post. Kuwait has a good market for conventional and digital cameras. There are a lot of people who are interested and really enjoy photography as a hobby. I met many of them with amazing set of DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras at the GulfRun event. It was interesting to find a lot of female photographers also. Apart from all the DLSR cameras, people with Smartphones and Compact digital cameras which are nowadays having 3-5 MP and above values. So you can see people clicking away throughout the day.

The Met department (Meteorological Department at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation) of Kuwait is holding a photography contest. The photography contest which will be held as one of the activities celebrating the World Meteorological Day (March 23rd, 2012). The Kuwait International Motocross Challenge (posted by Mark248am) being organised by Kuwait Quarter Mile Auto and Motorcycle  Club. This event is taking place on 17th March 2012 at Q8 MX Circuit - Bnaider. Photography enthusiasts will be allowed around the track. I believe this will be another opportunity for photographers. GoPro will be giving away 5 GoPro cameras to the attendees via a raffle draw while Dunkin Donuts will be offering donuts and hot coffee as well.
